Meet Gary Ryan.
Gary Ryan is the founder of Organisations That Matter, a boutique consulting firm in Melbourne, Australia. Gary works with organisations in a wide range of industries, including public transport, agriculture, building services, finance, banking, federal, state, and local government, universities, arboriculture, primary and secondary schools, professional sport, and individual leaders who desire to improve their lives and the lives of the people they serve.
Gary is the ninth of 11 children and a twin. As such, he says teamwork has been part of his life ever since conception! He is happily married to Michelle, and together they have five children. With Michelle, nothing has been more critical for Gary than leading their family through this challenging period. Everything he and Michelle have learned throughout their lives has been placed under the microscope, having spent more than 260 days living under strict lockdown rules.
In the mid-1990s, Gary was introduced to Servant Leadership and the theory and practice of Organisational Learning. These theories are constantly evolving and have spawned Authentic Leadership and Inclusive Leadership. The theoretical foundation of these bodies of knowledge has continued to influence Gary in everything he does. Most importantly, Gary believes in closing the gap between theory and practice, which is the space in which he has chosen to work. He focuses on leaders because they have the most significant influence on the culture within an organisation.
As a contributor to his local community, Gary has performed many roles as a volunteer coach and sports coordinator for the various local sporting organisations his children have attended.
